How to Calculate Damage on Axie Infinity Season 19
Understand how damage works in Axie, like a pro.
Axie Infinity might look like a simple game. But there is a lot of deep understanding that you might need to climb the ladder and increase your MMR.
An interesting mechanic is the damage calculation. Damage is not based only on the card number, but on other several factors, and Season 19 has changed a little bit how it works.
Here we’ll talk about those 4 factors and how they all interact:
Class advantage bonus.
Same class card bonus.
Combo bonus.
Critical strikes.
Stacking bonuses.
Before we jump into the theory, we’ve created a spreadsheet that calculates the damage for you!

Class advantage bonus
Similar to other games as complex as types for Pokemon or as simple as Rock Paper Scisors, there are card class that can be strong against certain Axie classes.
If the card class is strong against the Axie class, it will deal +15% bonus damage. Or -15% if it’s the other way.
Let’s jump into some examples.
Advantageous class example
The aquatic card Swift Escape will deal +15% to a beast Axie. Instead of dealing 110, it will deal an extra 15% of 110 (16.5), for a total of 126 damage.
Base Damage + 15%Base Damage = Total Damage;
110 + 16,5 = 126,5 ≈ 126
The result of the formula is always rounded down.
Disadvantageous class example
The aquatic card Swift Escape will deal -15% to a plant Axie. Instead of dealing 110, it will deal a reduced 15% of 110 (-16.5), for a total of 93 damage.
Base Damage - 15% Base Damage = Total Damage;
110 - 16,5 = 93,5 ≈ 93
The result of the formula is always rounded down.
Neutral class example
The aquatic card Swift Escape will deal ±0% to an aquatic Axie. There isn’t a type bonus, it’s neutral damage, so the total damage will be 110.
Same class card
This is the simplest bonus. If the Axie class is the same as the axie card, the card will deal an extra 10% damage.
Example
The aquatic card Swift Escape will deal a bonus 10% damage if it’s used by an Acuatic Axie.
Base Damage + 10% Base Damage = Total Damage;
110 + 11 = 121
If Swift Scape is used by any other class that is not aquatic, it won’t trigger this specific bonus
Combo bonus
When any Axie uses 2 or more cards in the same round, every card used will deal an extra percentage of the damage depending on the Axie skill stat.
The formula for calculating the extra damage is:
(Axie Skill * 0.55) - 12.5
Playing more than 2 cards won’t increase the bonus. It’ll be the same from 2 to 4 cards.
Example
Swift Escape used with any other card by an Axie with 35 skill will deal a bonus 6.75 damage for a total of 116 damage.
Critical strikes
The critical strike chance randomizes a lot, so we won’t get into details. The higher morale an Axie has, the greater chance it has to land a critical hit.
What we know is the percentage bonus damage that it will deal.
Bonus damage formula
(√Morale) * 10 + Morale * 0,4 - 18 = Bonus % damage
Example
If Swift Escape gets to hit a critical strike from an Axie with 27 morale it will deal a bonus 44.76% damage.
(√Morale) * 10 + Morale * 0,4 - 18 = Bonus % damage
(√27) *10 + 27 * 0,4-18 = 44,76%
The total damage of the card will be
110 + (44,76% of 110) ≃ 159
Stacking bonuses
Let’s put all together!
Imagine that we have a 27 morale & 35 skill Aqua Axie with Swift Scape and we use it with another random card against a Mech Axie.
We’ll need to add all of the multipliers and add the combo bonus:
Base damage → 110
Class advantage → +15% (1.15 multiplier) (It will be -15% = 4.5 if it were a Plant)
Same class → +10% (1.1 multiplier) (It will be 0 if the Axie using it weren't Aqua)
Combo → 6.75 (It will be 0 if the card were used alone)
Base Damage * Class Advantage * Same Class + Combo
110 * 1,15 * 1,1 + 6,75 ≃ 145
It will deal a total of 145 damage.
What if it hits a critical strike?
We’ll have to add the multiplier to the previous formula, before adding the combo bonus.
Critical strike → 44.76% (1.4476 multiplier)
Base Damage * Class Advantage * Same Class * Critical Strike + Combo
20 * 1,15 * 1,1 + 6,75 * 1,4476 ≃ 43
It will deal 208 damage if it’s a critical hit.
